The Goal

We are frequently reminded of a disturbing aspect regarding the demographics of our individual Lodges and the local Fraternity as a whole. This aspect is the advancing age and thinning availability of Brothers who are able to perform our Funeral Lecture. One of the primary responsibilities of a Lodge is to provide funeral services for a Brother who has been taken out of our midst. Doing so has become more and more difficult in the last few years due to the scarcity of Brothers who are able to perform the lecture. The recent development of the COVID-19 virus has further stricken our ability to satisfy this sacred duty.

In light of this gathering situation, the Central Indiana Freemasons Association (formerly the Actual Masters and Wardens Association of Marion and Adjoining Counties) intends to solicit volunteers and maintain a database of Brethren who are willing to help assist local lodges.

This is an effort to help coordinate assistance for local lodges, not to take over the responsibility. The opening of a Lodge of Sorrow, coordinating with local funeral homes and families (per the Grand Masters directions) are the responsibility of the Lodge itself.

We will provide a pdf. of the Indiana Funeral Service for anyone who is interested.
